Buying Content Anonymously: How It Works

Anonymous isn't a switch you flip. It's three separate questions that often get lumped together: what does the person you're buying from see? What do other people on the platform see? And what happens when you pay?

The three answers turn out differently. Knowing that lets you decide for yourself how far it's enough for you.

What the Model sees of you

Your username. Nothing else.

You pick it yourself at signup, and it's everything the other side gets to see of you. No real name, no email address, no payment details. That applies in chat just as much as in a Challenge or a Drop purchase.

The username is therefore the single most important decision in the whole process, and most people make it in two seconds. Don't use the one you use elsewhere, and definitely not your first and last name. A reverse search on a username is the easiest way to identify someone, and it costs nobody more than a minute.

What other Users notice

There's no public feed of purchases. What you got sits privately in your Gallery, and nobody sees a list of it.

No "just bought", no public collection, no number next to your name that lets anyone read off how much you spend. Even a Challenge you post only reveals what you write into it, namely the theme, the scope and the reward.

What happens when you pay

This is where anonymity ends, and that's true everywhere. Moving money requires real data, and that's payment law, not the platform.

What matters is where that data goes: to the payment provider, not to the Model. The payment itself isn't visible to the other side, all that arrives there is that payment happened. And how a charge shows up on your statement is decided by the payment method you top up with.

In between sits our Wallet. You load it with credit and pay out of that afterward, instead of triggering a payment for every single purchase. For you that mainly changes the rhythm: one top-up instead of many small transactions.

Where you give yourself away

The most likely way someone figures out who you are doesn't run through technology. It runs through what you tell people.

Your job, your city, next week's holiday, a photo you send "just quickly", the name of your cat that you use everywhere. None of that is a problem on its own. Put together it forms a pretty clear picture, and nobody needs to hack anything for that. There's a second issue on top of that: the channel. As soon as an exchange moves to a messenger account or a private email address, more of you usually hangs off that than you'd like. As long as everything stays in the platform's chat, it stays separable too.

What you sort out in five minutes

• A username that doesn't appear anywhere else
• A dedicated email address just for this
• Your own password, not the one from your main account
• Two-factor login turned on
• No moving to private channels, no matter how nicely you're asked
